Most of the Western and Southwestern United States was under Spanish control at one time in our early history. The area around Elk Grove was a vast field of wildflowers. Florin, the town to the north of Elk Grove, is from "flor", the Spanish word for flower.
James Rutter became one of the agriculture leaders here. He planted fruits, grapes, and berries on his many acres in the Florin area. Japanese people came to Florin to work in the fields while they saved money to buy their own farms. Conditions were great for growing strawberries. Strawberry fields stretched from Stockton Road to where Mather Air Force Base is now. Florin strawberries were even being shipped back to the East during the early 1900's.
When World War II began, the United States government had the Japanese people move into internment camps. The Japanese lost their strawberry farms forever. This action changed the agriculture and atmosphere of the area. Today the students of Florin High School are a part of a still growing and changing history of Florin.
Florin High School celebrates its seventh anniversary as a school with high academic standards for all students. One of our major goals is to improve student learning and to increase academic achievement. Our school motto is "Making Success An Everyday Experience". The entire staff works hard to accomplish the goals outlined in our 5 A's Student Achievement Plan in the areas of Academics, Attendance, Attitude, Activities, and Athletics. To assist us in this process, we develop and implement academic programs and school activities that support our school mission.
MISSION: "Our purpose is to enable students to develop a positive vision for themselves, and to become responsible, independent, self directed learners resulting in informed and ethical decision making both now and in their future lives."
